Art Gallery

Did you know that there is math in art? Capitol students learned this and much more last week when they experienced "Art Day!" It was a great afternoon as every Capitol student was engaged at the same time doing the same thing in an educator's room, learning about different artists, art history, math in art, & art forms. Parents enjoyed the "Art Gallery Museum" during a special Parent Night. Students and parents completed an art scavenger hunt. Kids taught their parents about Chinese Vase art, Georgia O'Keeffes' flower painting, here, near and far with seven famous Canadian watercolor artists, about Gee's Bend Quilts and the history behind them, about shapes and colors in Russian artist Wassily Kandansky's art, about the French Painter Henri Matisse and his work with color, about Ted Harrison's inspired landscape of a polar bear, and about symmetry in paper cutting. They used many mediums, including paint, pencil, mixed media, and graphic art. It was a great experience for everyone. Thank you to all the Capitol teachers for being on board with the fabulous "Art Day" project.
