Mrs. Utley's 4th-grade GT students at Capitol have been learning about how narratives can be represented through art in the form of a mosaic, and the relationship between history, mosaics and storytelling. Throughout the semester, students have interpreted mosaics and related them to historical periods. For their final project this team of 4th graders created their own story through the use of communicating and generating their individual ideas with one another. Students then used mosaics to tell their story in art form. They first designed their art with paper and then got the opportunity to work with renowned mosaic artist Pauline Mills of the Glass Alley, who has done several pieces for the city of Levelland. Students got to see their piece come to life! They also enjoyed a lunch at Blue Sky and the art exhibit at the Texas Tech Museum. Students will show off their finished product at their end-of-year GT presentation in May. Thank you to Mrs. Utley for the amazing learning all year long and a memorable field trip!
