Martin Luther King Day

Martin Luther King Day

LISD had school today and is so proud they did. This was the perfect day to focus on Martin Luther King and what he did to advance Civil Rights. Students throughout the district learned about MLK today. Mr. King was influential in organizing boycotts, marches, sit-ins, and political rallies for civil rights. In 1963 King gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. King died on April 4, 1968, when James Earl Ray assassinated him in Memphis, Tennessee. Capitol third-grade students were caught learning about MLK too. They read an informational text about Martin Luther King Jr. They answered questions, using adjectives to describe him, and they wrote about one thing they can do to make the world a better place. All these lessons prove that having school on Martin Luther King Day was so worth it! Thank you, LISD teachers, for always helping your students learn and think out of the box!
