Today is World Read-Aloud Day, and Capitol students spent the day doing just so! Capitol librarian Mrs. Pam Alexander scheduled online stories all day long for students to experience many Read-Aloud books through a Scholastic Book Club site. Mrs. Alexander's purpose for today is to draw attention to the importance of sharing stories by challenging students to grab a book and read-aloud! Most read-aloud books are, but not limited to easy to read picture books. We caught third graders in Mrs. Eunice Rodriguez's class listening to Malcolm Mitchell. He is an author, poet, and former American football wide receiver for the New England Patriots. Malcolm read aloud his book, My Very Favorite Book In The Whole Wide World to the class and discussed that reading wasn't always easy for him but encouraged students to keep practicing to get better! Students really got into the read-aloud, and the longer the lesson went, the more engaged the students became! Thank you, Mrs. Alexander, for organizing this Read-aloud event for Capitol kids! It was great for them to listen to some great reads, hear from some cool role models, and think about reading all day long!
