Seed Tradition

Tradition! Capitol students beg Librarian Pam Alexander for this pumpkin seed activity each year. After reading fiction and nonfiction books all month about pumpkins, today's library activity started the way it always did.....in the library, with a big orange pumpkin! Students each had the opportunity to help dig out the meat and seeds to contribute to the frying pan. Mrs. Alexander then cooked the seeds and after some pops and crackles, students were able to try the pumpkin seeds to see if they liked or didn't like the taste of them. "They taste like nuts," and "they taste like popcorn" was heard throughout. As students left the library they asked, "Same time next year?" We thank Mrs. Alexander for sparking curiosity and connecting literature to real-world experiences. Mrs. Alexander is creating memories that will last well beyond the library walls!
