Capitol GT Mosaics

Mrs. Utley's 4th grade GT group has been learning about how narratives can be represented through art in the form of a mosaic, and the relationship between history, mosaics and storytelling. Throughout the semester, students have interpreted mosaics and related them to historical periods. For their final project, these 4th graders created their own story by communicating and generating their individual ideas with one another. Students then used mosaics to tell their story in art form. They first designed their art with paper and then got the opportunity to work with renowned mosaic artist Pauline Mills of the Glass Alley, who has done many mosaic pieces for the city of Levelland, to have their piece come to life! They also enjoyed a lunch at Blue Sky and the art exhibit at the Texas Tech Museum. Students will show off their finished product at their end-of-year GT presentation on May 15th.
