Our Capitol and South Elementary fourth graders traded their classrooms for a day of hands-on learning at the Hockley County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Ag Awareness Day, and what an experience it was! Students explored agriculture from the ground up! They discovered what it takes to be a veterinarian, learned about crops and how cotton travels from the field through the ginning process, and explored the importance of soil and water conservation. They even learned simple ways they can help conserve water right at home.

And the learning didn’t stop there! Students also got an up-close look at animals, wildlife, and the important roles they play in our ecosystem. These are the kinds of learning experiences you just can’t recreate from a textbook. Our students came home with new knowledge, new experiences, and maybe even a new interest in a future career! If you missed this field trip, you definitely missed a good one!
